Vaison-La-Romaine to Avignon

June 14 ~~ Sunny and Hot, with a breeze.

We had hoped to take the bus all the way back to Avignon, but circumstance conspired against us.  We got all packed up and checked out, and headed to the bus station.  We immediately ran smack into the regular Tuesday market, but couldn't spend any real time shopping.  When we got to the bus station, it wasn't clear where we should wait, so we were surprised when a bus pulled out of the terminal gates (a prohibited area), and rushed right past us.  We went in to ask where to wait - yes, we were at the right spot... When the *second* bus passed us by, we went back and asked the *right* question!  We finally saw where the confusion was - the schedule that we (and the hotel clerk) had used to plan our trip relied on routes that were only available during school vacations - that is, not running now. :-(.  Well... Luckily we had a fall-back plan - we would just do the reverse of our trip to Vaison-La-Romaine.  Now we had a couple of hours to kill, so we left our bags at the station, walked back to the market, and got an early lunch (our breakfast had been awfully light, and we wouldn't have a chance for a real meal until Avignon).  After our rocky start, we caught our bus to Orange, then the train to Avignon, followed by an easy walk to our hotel - no problem!
