Saint Malo - Bretagne France

Saint Malo is a port city on the North coast of Bretagne, known for being the home of corsairs - French privateers! It's the birthplace of the "discoverer of Canada" - Jacques Cartier, who mapped the Saint Lawrence River. The town was almost completely destroyed in World War II.

We arrived (with much less destruction) at 1:30, fresh from our morning in Dinan - highway signs were warning people that the intra-muros (the area inside the walls) was packed, and to consider parking farther away. We thought that it would be crowded, but wow! Was it crowded!

At any rate, we had a parking spot reserved, so on we went! Then, immediately to the Petit Train, waited about half an hour, and hopped on - it was a good, walk-less introduction to the town.

After our train ride, we walked back into town to see the Saint Malo Cathedral

Then we headed to a viewpoint (Maison du Québec) that had easy access 🙂

Here's a statue of Robert Surcouf (12 December 1773 – 8 July 1827), pointing out the enemy across the channel - England!

We made our way back to the car, then drove the hour and a half back to our apartment (the black dot on the map).
