Bretagne Hiking Trail

We took a little walk along our section of the GR34 hiking trail - it was beautiful!

This is also known as the Customs Trail, established in 1791 to combat smuggling - it stretches all along the Breton coast, for 2000 km, from Mont St. Michel to St. Nazaire. We'll be seeing a lot more of it on this trip!

Loupian Hike

We went back to Loupian for today's hike - our route was a bit shorter than last time (see it here), but it was still very pleasant! We had a nice sunny day, with very little wind - not warm enough to tempt shorts though...

We parked at the church, and headed out of town

Saw some interesting plants

And vineyards

Had another look at the old mine

Last Summer, there was a fire here - we saw a lot of blackened trees and shrubs

We stopped for an early lunch, and enjoyed the view

The arugula is in fine form

Then on to drinks, sitting in the sun in Mèze.

Gruissan Hike

I went hiking with a new group, with a focus on photography - we met just outside of Gruissan, and walked about 6 kilometers, with lunch in the middle.

The old tower was a constant focus

Les Onglous Canal du Midi Hike

Les Onglous Canal du Midi Hike

I wanted to start my hiking season off with a fairly easy hike - this stroll along the canal seemed to fit the bill. The path is flat and packed dirt nearly the entire distance, and it follows along the canal. It's mostly in the sun, but there are a few sections in moist shade. There were quite a few bicyclists on the same path - a friendly exchange of "bonjour!" added a smile to our hike.

We parked in Les Onglous, between Maldormir and Agde, at the bridge marked with the star on the map. We walked West towards Agde and the Hérault river, about 6 km, had lunch, then returned (it's not a loop). Given that, it's easy to simply turn around earlier to shorten the route.
