Inverness is at the north end of Loch Ness - "inver" means opening, so naturally Inverness is at the opening of the Ness loch 🙂. There's a bridge across the loch where it nearly meets the sea - before it was built, the trip from one side to the other meant a nearly 50 mile detour!
We had a quick drive through Inverness, then started back South. We passed Culloden (for those of you like me, who had only ever read it, it's pronounced cull-OH-dun), the site of the last battle fought on British soil in 1746.
We passed the Cairgorms
Rolling hills
Then we stopped at the popular retirement village of Pitlochry (properly renowned for its ice cream)
And just like that, we were back in Glasgow!
