Sète Food Review

Today was our last day in Sète, and we *finally* introduced my parents to Gardienne de Taureau! We also took an American slant on things French, and had an appetizer of baked Camembert cheese (I think Dad liked it more than Mom did, but I could be wrong)
Demolished cheese
Since Mom commented that they had tried a lot of "exotic" foods (and drinks) on this trip, I thought I'd try to list some...

  • Duck breast (in kiwi sauce, with "sheep feet" mushrooms)
  • Various other mushrooms
  • Smoked duck breast (with orange and cheese, on toast)
  • Poire de Normandy (pear cider)
  • Grilled prawns (giant hit)
  • Scallops (with the coral)
  • Mussels
  • Octopus
  • Tielle (octopus pie)
  • Smoked salmon (they'd had it before, but not often)
  • Tapenade
  • Real baguettes
  • Picpoul de Pinet (white wine)
  • Chocolate éclair
  • Pâté (mousse forestier, really)
  • Iberian pork
  • Serrano ham
  • Pork daube (thick stew)
  • A variety of quiches
  • French chocolate mousse
  • Fruits de mer with mandarines
  • Fromage blanc with roasted peppers
  • French "guacamole" (weird, it had sugar in it?!)
  • Crémant (sparkling white wine)
  • Encornet farci (squid stuffed with ground meat, in tomato sauce)
  • Tapas!
  • Paëlla
  • 10 year old port (and others - Mom liked the ruby)

Said "no" to (most ahead of time; one, unfortunately, after it was on the plate):

  • Escargot
  • Bulot
  • Boudin noir
  • Foie gras
  • Anchovies

What they haven't had (yet!):

  • Macarons
  • Croque-monsieur
  • Crêpes
  • Grilled sardines
  • Smoked herring
  • Rabbit (they've had it before, but not in France!)
  • Frog legs
  • Monkfish
  • Razor clams

We do still have time; tomorrow, we head to Paris!

Update: they had croque-monsieur in the Paris train station
