Madrid 2023

All roads lead to Madrid (or at least, many)! We had already floated through the airport on our first trip to France from Costa Rica, but hadn't stopped. But the capital city was on our list for stopovers on the way to Sevilla (train), and I had a few sites scoped out. So, when Rick's nephew had a business trip there, we put some of that to use! This really was a trip to visit and catch up with family, so we kept it to places that were easy.

We wandered around Plaza Mayor

We took a stroll through Retiró Park

R&B, in front of the solarium

The Palace and Cathedral will still be there for us to visit another time ☺️

Details:
We drove to Madrid over several days, stopping at Céret and Zaragoza, stayed 3 full days, then drove straight back in one looong day.

I looked at several ways to get to Madrid:
- train: ugh! At a total cost of 800€, and requiring several transfers, this was a definite no! Later, some sales came along, but nothing that would help.
- air: believe it or not, this was cheaper at 540€ (plus airport parking), but had us going through Paris 🙄
- driving: even with some hotels thrown in, this was the right deal 260€ for gas and tolls. Yeah, I had to pay attention, but it was a pretty easy drive (almost all freeway), and we had the option of stopping (which we did!), and flexible timing (we like that!).
