We spent the morning wandering through old-town Valencia - we didn't have any real destination in mind, so we just turned where our eyes led us. And then where our tired feet made us 😉.
We took a bus (line 70, 1.50€ ea, bought on board) to the edge of Old Town, then walked. The sun was brilliant, but there was a bite to the wind - we should have brought our scarves. We saw quite a bit of interesting street art. There were lots of parks (including along the old riverbed, left from when they diverted the river), and plenty of plazas with benches and trees loaded with oranges. We were constantly seeing interesting old buildings, often right up against more modern ones.
Here's a sampling of sites - there are more photos in the Spain 2023 album.
It got close to lunch time, so we decided to head for a bus home, but keep an eye out for tapas and paella. Ultimately, we felt more comfortable with the idea of eating at our hotel, so we caught another bus (C31) towards the metro, then took that back.

Things to remember about buses, trains, trams, and metros:
- We had to use cash, and for the metro, we bought just one reusable card and loaded both of our tickets on it.
- Look up and keep in mind the name of the terminus in your direction (you don't want to go the wrong way). The stop for the reverse direction is not necessarily just across the street!
- I used my phone GPS to keep track of where we were, and when we should get off. I usually have to hold it close to the window for it to work. Naturally, this doesn't work for the metro...
- I needed to turn on cell data and roaming to see the bus information (line numbers and routes). Since I usually have this off, I captured a screenshot of what I needed, then turned it all back off 🙂.
