Montpellier Whirlwind Tour

The other day, we took a whirlwind tour of Montpellier! Of course, we started at the gare (train station), and walked up to the Place de la Comédie, where we looked at the opera house, cinema, and the Three Graces

Along to the Esplanade

Jean Jaurès monument and various statues scattered around the park

Then on to the Jardin Hotel de Sully

We meandered through the old narrow streets

to the Cathédrale Saint-Pierre

And the University of Montpellier medical school

11:30 a.m. on this sundial

Oldest faculty portrait I saw was 1200's

On to Promenade du Peyrou

Then lunch opposite the préfecture, and back to the Jardin des Plantes

Back through more narrow streets, to the art gallery of Sainte Anne

Eglise Saint Roch was closed, so we went to the Alliance française, then stopped for ice cream, then back to Saint Roch

And back towards the gare, and home!

~~~
We had some pretty awful timing, so did a fair amount of backtracking!
- Saint Pierre inside was closed for restoration (fortunately, we knew that, and enjoyed the exterior)
- The Jardin des Plantes didn't open until noon; we got there at 11:30.
- Sainte Anne art museum was closed from 1-2, when we got there
- Saint Roch was closed until 3...
It might have been better to go in the opposite direction, but who knows what we would have faced then!
