Rome 2025 - The Vatican Museums

We're in Rome! We spent the afternoon of our first full day here at the Vatican Museums - beautiful sculptures, artifacts, tapestries, and ceiling art!

Roman / Greek

Ceilings!

And giant bathtubs!

This one was carved from solid purple porphyry marble for Emperor Nero (54-68 AD). Weighing 1000s of pounds, with a radius of 25 feet, it is worth over $2 billion!

It's surrounded by mosaics

Don't forget to look up!

Don't forget to look down!

And up again!

And again!

Many more photos are in the Rome 2025 Vatican album.

Prepaid tickets and our cane meant no waiting in line - our 1:30 entry tickets even got us in by 1:15.

We should have gotten a wheelchair (available at the entrance), but there were still so many stairs!

We pooped out basically right before the entrance to the Sistine Chapel - turned around, and barely made it back outside to a restaurant for good seats and some refreshments.

We had also thought to continue to the basilica - another time...
