Canal du Midi

We wanted a low-key day after our Carcassonne trip, so decided to take a picnic lunch to the canal du midi. Fortunately, the lovely Liesbeth on one of my Facebook groups had recently visited "The 9 Locks" (Les Neuf Écluses de Fonseranes), and posted a fabulous write-up! We followed her lead :-)

Our GPS behaved this time, even though it didn't look like it at times - we parked, assembled ourselves, and followed the path. We got there ready to have our picnic, but it turned out that the picnic grounds were at the opposite end of the site :-\ soooo, we ordered drinks at the restaurant, and broke out our basket (yeah, a little ugly, but it was necessary).

After lunch, we got boat tickets, and took the canal boat through the 9 locks - it's a drop of 21.5 meters over 312 meters (see more details here)

After coming through the locks, we crossed the Orb river, still in the canal! Here, you can just see the arches of the car bridge - we're on the canal bridge :-)

Looking back, up the locks

Our boat turned around, the dropped us at the bottom of the lock-run. We got a different view, then grabbed a golf-cart ride back up to the top :-)
